Vocalizing is an important tool for goal success because it gives a voice to the unspoken. If we do not voice our need, it does not have the ability to take root and grow. Voicing also helps our thoughts stand up and be accountable. We need to voice our thoughts and feelings to ourselves and others because vocalizing as an essential tool to achieving your goal is critical.

Negative Thoughts or Mistaken Beliefs
Let’s explore voicing negative thoughts with an exercise using the Negative Phrases Checklist, which is a free download in the Goal Setting Freebies. Check off any that apply to you or that you have said to yourself.

Say one of the phrases out loud that you checked off on the Negative Phrases Checklist. What happens when you say this phrase out loud? Pay Attention. Saying a negative out loud, holds more weight, gives more power and reality to the saying or belief.
These negative phrases often show up and are expressed quickly (out loud or internally) as a reaction to something that went wrong or that we may have done wrong. But they represent a deeper belief about ourselves (which shows up as a Negative or Mistaken Belief as seen in the next checklist).

Voicing our negative feelings and thoughts out loud helps us to discern the negative, unhealthy or critical messages that live inside of us. When we give (literal) voice to our negative or (irrational) thinking, we build awareness and awareness leads to change.
Labelling negative messages can diffuse the power that they have over you and help you to acknowledge and normalize them and eventually change them. This way of labelling is vocalizing as an essential tool to achieving your goal is essential.

Here is another checklist of Negative or Mistaken Beliefs also found in the Goal Setting Freebies. This checklist is an example of the beliefs that are more deeply rooted than the Negative Phrases Checklist.

Voicing Affirmations
In the same way, voicing our accomplishments and successes is just as important as voicing our negative beliefs. We need to voice our affirmations because this type of vocalizing as an essential tool to achieving your goal is critical.
We may not believe the good things that we tell ourselves but we can eventually believe these truths if we practice them over time. These good statements are called affirmations. Affirmations are short, present tense I statements that we are working towards believing.
The following Transform Your Mind With Affirmations checklist is available in the Goal Setting Freebies for download. This checklist contains the corresponding opposites to each Mistaken Beliefs as shown above.

If practiced regularly, affirmations can have a powerful change effect on the brain. We can reprogram the negative beliefs with healthy, life-giving messages.
Journaling
Journaling is another important “vocalizing” habit to record your process through each step on your journey towards your goal. It is critical to write feelings, fears and successes in order to remind yourself of where you are and where you are headed. Check out the post, 15 Prompts for Journal Prompts for Goal Setting to create habits and learn how to use prompts.
Writing in a journal is a practical place to tangibly voice your commitments to your daily, weekly and monthly goals. It is also a place to write out how proud you are of your accomplishments. Sometimes it helps to solidify your written beliefs if you say them out loud or practice saying them in the mirror. We need to journal our thoughts and feelings because this type of vocalizing as an essential tool to achieving your goal is critical.
Voicing your negative thoughts to others can help you gain perspective and feedback. Don’t be shy in sharing your progress either, your voice and experience just may encourage and inspire someone else (and even yourself). Sharing your success no matter how big or small is important. Surrounding yourself with a like minded community in relations to your creative dream can encourage, challenge and motivate you.
I hope you are encouraged to start voicing your thoughts whether negative or positive as they are an essential key to achieving your goal.
