Spring brings a sense of eager anticipation; awaiting the new life that is being recreated with God’s paint brush. I love being part of this “re-creating”; seeing the new break forth out of the old. This is one of the reasons that spring is my favorite time of year to decorate our home. I love the fresh, inviting feel to spring decor. Spring home decor reminds me that spring is right around the corner just outside my door. Thank you for joining me on my spring home tour!
I am delighted and honored to be joining the talented group of Canadian Bloggers co-hosted by Christina Dennis from TheDIYMommy.com and Shannon from HomeMadeLovely.com
It is my pleasure that you have stopped by. As I am new to this Home Tour, allow me introduce myself. My name is Darlene, home decor DIYer and artist at Paper Rose. I have been blogging for almost a year now from our four year old rural east coast inspired home here on the Canadian Prairies. I love creating easy and affordable DIYs in home decor, DIY signs, sewing and makeup. Take a look around and enjoy the Free Printables gallery chock full of watercolour art images, two watercolour versions of a 2018 Calendar, hand lettered prints and much more.
So grab your tea or coffee and enjoy spring in our kitchen, dining room and living room this season!
KITCHEN
In our open concept main floor, the kitchen is the shining star of the rooms. It is where we (hubby and two energetic kids, our girl E is 9 and our son B is 4) spend most of our time; cooking, baking, crafting and having tea parties.

There’s nothing quite like fresh bright kitchen accessories such as floral trays, a magnetic chalkboard message board, a pink kitchen aide and an aqua retro breadbox (read about this stunning before and after HERE). Easy, affordable flowers finish off this room with just the right spring touch. Carnations and tulips are some of the most affordable spring flowers.

Spring Details
I pull out my three tiered dainty serving tray whenever there is a birthday party or tea party. Mixing food and florals allow this display to be functional and decorative. Spring, namely Easter, isn’t complete without my family Paska recipe. This sweet bread is served as buns or a loaf, sliced, then dipped in lemon flavored icing and decorated with sprinkles. I added my signature roses to the spring themed sugar cookies with edible gel food colouring and vodka. I painted the same roses with watercolours to the eggs. Vintage doilies break up the grey and act as a continuous runner on the island.

I love bringing the outdoors in as a quick, affordable way to dress up our home. The pussy willows have just started to bloom so I added a few sprigs to the serving tray. Tulips and carnations were added as another fresh element. To fill out the display, I used petals from a faux hydrangea and mini chocolate eggs.

DINING ROOM
I continued the same elements into the dining room with the florals, sugar cookies and a second smaller tiered dainty tray. This would be the perfect setting for a spring brunch. I used a pink gingham tea towel to make into cloth napkins. As I like to use the new with old, I pulled out my grandmother’s embroidered runner for the centrepiece foundation as well as doilies under the bread plate. I followed similar home decor rules that come from the Easy DIY Farmhouse Chic Centrepiece

Personalized Table Settings
To personalize the table setting, instead of a place card, I dyed some hard boiled eggs in corresponding colours and used pencil crayon to hand letter guest’s names on them. Once the guests are seated and ready to eat, the coloured eggs can be added to the tiered serving trays to add to the decor.

LIVING ROOM
As each area of the main floor can be seen in this open concept design, it’s important to continue the cohesive flow of coordinating colours. This cabinet was given a refresh with a bright turquoise paint a few years ago and although I was hesitant about the vibrant colour, I totally love it now. It serves as a transition piece between the dining room and the living room. As a transition piece, I have also used it to house china and silverware.
Fall Buffet
Check out How to Style a Fall Buffet for this multi-purpose piece. Try using an antique piece such as old windows or discarded barn board like this window frame from my family home. I used a floral garland from our wedding decor to bring airiness to the chippy weathered wood window frame.

Free Watercolor Printable
Try to freshen up a piece of furniture such as this cabinet with a new watercolour art image. Grab this FREE printable “Enjoy the Journey” Bicycle as an instant PDF download in the Free Printables Gallery along with many other hand lettered prints, two 2018 calendars, quote prints, gift tags and much more! Another tea towel in the same pink gingham as the napkins was used as a decorative fabric to tie the whole spring home tour display together.

Cozy Seating Area
My spring home tour continues through to the seating area of the living room is a new addition to make this corner cozy. This Ektorp chair was formerly in our Master bedroom but it fit much better next to the other lovely Ikea chair and side table. Maybe it was the spring in me that said, “try moving it to a new spot”. It was like an “aha” moment. It’s the perfect spot to view the whole main floor area while still getting a glimpse of the spring that is to come outside.

Create a Gallery Wall
The small gallery wall arrangement fits perfectly with this quiet spot. It is a great place to enjoy a morning coffee and fresh blooms. To learn the correct way to arrange the perfect gallery wall, check out How to Greate a Gallery Wall 101

Darlene, thank you for your pretty Spring home tour! I especially loved seeing that china tiered platter all decorated for Spring, with the pretty doilies underneath. It reminded me of all the doilies my Grandma crocheted for me…I need to get them out and use them!:)
Thanks Rita! I think the tiered platter is my favorite part. My Grandma and mother crocheted the doilies so I bring them out whenever I have the opportunity.

Hey! Really pretty pictures… I love the bicycle picture the best! My eyesight must not be so great because I thought at first the description of the “3 tiered serving tray” read “tired serving tray.” I’m sure it’s far from tired – it looks lovely. Thanks for sharing the spring in your home!
Thank You! The bicycle pic is a PDF printable in the free printables section! Tired…You’re funny! I’ll have to check the spelling. LOL
