Do you want to display art, seasonal decor or family photos? How about a degree with mementos or a map with pictures of your travels along with souvenirs? Or do you want to add your own DIY art to a collection to make it complete? Creating a gallery wall is the answer. Follow along with these easy steps for How to create a Gallery Wall 101. You’ll want to stay tuned to the end as I have a SPECIAL FREE OFFER for you that will transform your gallery wall into a winning display!!
Start by thinking in terms of symmetry or randomness; how ordered or chaotic do you like your decor to be? I like symmetry and square edges when it comes to pictures. Are you an eclectic collector, stick to a theme or choose similar colours and textures?
Find the pieces that you love with what you already have. I start with pictures that are the largest in a collection and work around them. I usually add “accessories” such as a letter to the outside of the collection.

Arranging and Tracing
Lay out all of your pieces of art on the floor. Take pictures of different arrangements and go with the one you are the most drawn too. Take craft paper or wrapping paper and trace the shape of the frame and cut out the paper replica.

Hanging Paper On the Way Trick
Line up the paper with the back of the picture and mark where the hook is and where the nail will be on that hook. When you place the paper on the wall you can put the nail directly where you have made the mark.
TIP: Be aware of how high you hand your pictures/art. If it is an area where you are primarily sitting then you would hang your pictures slightly lower than if it is an entry way where you would be mostly standing. For pictures that hang above a couch, 6 inches above the couch is the rule of thumb. Arrange the paper replicas on the wall with tape and use a level to make sure you are putting them on straight. Also, try to hang an odd number of items. Stand back and view your arrangement from different areas of the room.
Hang Pictures
Once you hang the picture over it’s matching paper replica, remove the paper.
Tip: If you are hanging pictures on a stairway, with or without a hand rail, measure equal distance from each step approximately 6 inches above where your hand would brush on the wall or touch the handrail and all the way along the wall. This creates an invisible line that your pictures will hang above.
