Come journey with me through the magic of Winter as I share my love for birds and painting with a gift for you; free woodland Bird Christmas Gift Tags.
I love the feeling of Winter in the air and getting ready for Christmas. The snow blankets the earth with a cool yet protective layer for the sleepy season ahead.
With the flowers dormant for the season, I turn to birds for inspiration. Our Canadian prairie acreage is home to beautiful blue jays, chickadees, wrens and the occasional owl. I miss the birds of summer but the birds that stay for the Winter are lovely and a joy to see and hear on crisp and blustery days.

One of my favorite things to do is to paint with watercolors. I have challenged myself each time I paint to take less time and be more free with the water and color. I have truly enjoyed the progression of this challenge.
My Favorite Birds
My favorite painting of the four birds is the wren. This isn’t the typical wren that we see here on our acreage but I couldn’t resist capturing the striking blue tail of this variety. Surprisingly for someone so particular, this painting took my all of fifteen minutes.

I also love the owl. This one on the other hand took me about two hours. It’s all in the eyes. If the eyes are not captured just right, the whole bird looks off.

The chickadee is one of my favorite birds and we see them often. They are so cheerful and friendly. I love the mix of the blue spruce branch with this little wonder.

Even though the blue jay is strikingly beautiful it can come across as a bit of a noisy nuisance. I chose to have this one quiet and resting in the spruce branch as well.

I hope you enjoy this sampling of watercolor art in the form of gift tags. There are four sheets each with six tags. Included are the owl, chickadee, wren and blue jay.
Just head to the Free Printables page where the Free Woodland Bird Christmas Gift Tags are ready for downloading and printing.

It is best to cut these gift tags with a paper cutter but a scissor will do as well.

I like to punch a hole up at the top left corner and attach to a gift or bag with a ribbon or some twine.

Ornaments
I have taken these lovely Winter woodland birds and created elegant ornaments as well for your Christmas Tree.
The Wren Ornament would look lovely with any neutral decor as well as blues and silver tree decorations.

I personally can’t wait to give this Baby Owl Ornament to my son for his Christmas decoration this year as his favorite animal is the owl.

The trusty and cheerful Chickadee Ornament looks right at home with neutrals as well as bright cheery reds and greens.

I love the cool blue tones of this cozy Blue Jay Ornament.

Take time to enjoy the beautiful offerings of winter in your own backyard.
