Do you create your ultimate dream room in your head prior to selecting the individual pieces? I had imagined a vintage chair for my bedroom for years; a blue wingback chair. I stopped searching online and in stores as I never saw the vision that was in my head. I let my mom in on my vision and she started searching. After a recent phone call from my mom, I realized I was closer to the vision for my bedroom. She had found a chair similar to one that she owned. The chair was velvet, tufted, wingback style and blue! Follow along as I share the transformation of before and after: blue wingback chair.
The chair had amazing structure and colour! There were no rips, tears, major stains or smoke smells. I knew that I wanted to give it an upgrade, so I was debating on painting the legs black or gold. It wasn’t a hard decision as I love gold!

Cleaning
Whoever owned the chair previously had a cat. This was evident especially on the footstool. We did a full vaccum of the chair and footstool. Then we rented a steam cleaner which ended up leaking for the entire cleaning process. We were still able to use the steam cleaner alongside a spray water bottle.
Prep Work
We covered the chair with a large plastic mattress cover from the bottom then poked the legs through the plastic. Around the top of the legs, we taped the plastic down. The footstool got a similar treatment to prep for painting.

Painting
Rustoleum gold metallic spray paint has been a great option in the past with other projects. My husband took on the task of spraying the legs, as he is much more careful with paint than I am. The process was quick and approximately two coats were applied without any wait time in between. Even though I was eager to have my new chair in our bedroom, I decided to wait overnight to put her in our home.

Lady Eleanor
This chairless and once cluttered corner of our bedroom was now compete with a beautiful blue wingback chair, that I named Lady Eleanor. She is elegant, regal and refined.

The bedroom has a variety of blue, green and mauve tones; each one compliments the other due to the gold accents that tie the space together. I have used original gold elements that can be found on the vanity pulls, mirrored tray and the artwork, and added more gold on the frames and legs of the wingback chair.
Gallery Wall
This small gallery wall arrangement was made complete with a gold foil hand lettered “Be You Tiful” piece in the 5×7 size from my online shop.

Part of History
One of my favorite pieces of furniture in our home is this round mirror bureau from the 1930s. This piece came from a Canadian furniture store in a small town and travelled hours to the home of my grandparents via horse and buggy. Once I inherited this vanity dresser, I painted it with a chalk paint from Heirloom Traditions in a light turquoise colour. Lady Eleanor looks perfectly regal next to this classic vanity.

Now I have a beautiful, peaceful space to spend my mornings reading, praying and journaling.

I hope you have been inspired to take something old and renew it with a little gold spray paint. What a transformation it gives to the blue wingback chair and this devotional nook!
