As an artist, it is my desire to create luxurious themed fabric accessible for the beginner to intermediate sewer. It is my business’ goal to create easy to sew and easy to wear pieces for every day. Every day lux is accomplished with large scale prints, jewel tones and sometimes a hint of neon. This combination is designed to infuse confidence in the wearer.
I began sharing my creative journey on my blog in 2017 through watercolour, home decor, DIY crafts and sewing projects. Subsequently, I opened two online shops, selling my art on accessories and home decor goods. I also launched a line of my own earrings with her patterns.
After taking Bonnie Christine’s Immersion Course in 2019, I dove into creating surface pattern collections for my portfolio.
As a result of my growing collection, Darlene Brink Design Inc. was formed to share my designs for licensing primarily with fabric and home goods companies.
As my confidence grew in my abilities as an artist, I wanted to share this confidence with other artists. “Become a Confident Artist: Overcome Fear & Create Your Best Work” was a program I developed for artists struggling with their inner critic.
I am inspired by florals, intricate nature details and jewelry design (bring on the sparkle). Incorporating larger scale motifs into my fabrics is my signature. When I look at my flower garden, I immediately think of how the details can be turned into a motif or pattern.
Nostalgia is a large component of my inspiration. My first pattern collection, Blooming & Becoming came from vintage family handiwork.
Being a child of the 80s inspires me to bring a touch of bold and geometric shapes into my patterns.
I love using larger scale, bright motifs to bring intricate pieces to life in my fabric design. These bold choices inspire confidence, therefore the maker clothes themselves in confidence. Showing others how to be confident is a thread that runs through all aspects of my creative business. As a result, my designs and clothing show that anyone can obtain every day lux.
Since very young I have delighted in sewing; sharing joy and confidence with one-of-a-kind art for myself and others. The duality of being a sewer and a pattern designer is an asset when entering the fabric and fashion industry.
