5 Must Have Makeup Products to Look More Youthful

Now, hear me out ladies. I am not saying you need to look younger. I am talking about the “youthful” look that makes you appear more awake, fresh and confident. You need products that are quick and easy to apply with an inner glow that says, “here I am and I am confident!” How about products that don’t break the bank? I am going to give you tips for my top 5 must have makeup products to look more youthful. Are you in? Ok, here we go!

Joe Fresh 8 Hr Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner

Eyeliner is an essential eye makeup product even more so than mascara in my opinion. It has the ability to open up the eye, making the eye appear larger. Eyeliner, if placed properly can enhance eye colour, take years off your appearance and accentuate the lash line so your lashes look thicker.

The best product for all of these qualities plus a steal of a deal is Joe Fresh 8 Hr waterproof kohl eyeliner in Burgundy. The colour is not drab brown or flat black. Brown and black are basic for all eye colours and do very little to enhance eye colour. Because this burgundy eyeliner has a purple undertone, it works great with all eye colours. It works especially well with green or hazel eyes because it is opposite on the colour wheel. It also works well with blue eyes as it is a close cousin of brown (which compliments blue eyes) but has more warmth to it.

The best placement for soft kohl eyeliner is in between the lashes or what is call the “tight line”. There are a few reasons this is the best placement:

This technique is softening to the eye and works with mature or age smart eyes. It does not have a harsh line above the lash line and because it is invisible to detect a definite line, it softens the look of the eye. Therefore, a softer looking eye creates the look of youthfulness.
This technique makes the eye appear more open and awake. This “tight line” placement works great for hooded eyes, allowing the eye lid to appear less droopy. The less droopy the eye appears, the more youthful you appear.
As we age, our lashes become more sparse. Using this “tight line” technique makes the eye lashes appear more dense and thick. This will also eliminate the “sparse” look of the skin between the lashes as well.

Essence I (Heart) Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara

Another one of my 5 must have makeup products to look more youthful is the Essence I Heart Extreme Crazy Volume mascara. The price point for this mascara is unbelievable at $4.99!! I absolutely love this mascara for three reasons.

Short Bristles – For lashes that are not very thick this brush is the best. The bristles seem to be placed far enough apart that they don’t touch the eyelid as the mascara is being applied.
Formula – The formula does not clump and it glides through the lashes with ease.
Grab – This brush plus the formula gives the feel that the lashes are being coated with the best possible quantity of product possible.

Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer

This product has been a game changer for me. I went from wearing bronzer just in the summer to wearing it year round. I can’t stop wearing this product in the fall and winter because it feels and looks so good year round. Apply this bronzer on the cheekbones, not in the hollow as I would a contour. I feature this product in a post called “Get Your Summer Glow On“

Here are four reasons I am totally in love with this bronzer that is my favorite product of the top 5 must have makeup products;

Smooth application – This product is easy to apply with a brush. It applies so smoothly and effortlessly and is creamy soft.
Lack of Reflective Particles – This is a fancy way of saying there is no highlighting qualities in this product. It does not have any sparkle or glitter in it. When glitter or sparkle is applied to the skin, it accentuates any fine lines or wrinkles.
Hydrating – The murumuru butter formula is so creamy and hydrating and lasts all day. Any powder products have the potential to dry out the skin which does not help with looking youthful. Even though this bronzer is a powder it does not feel like a powder on application.
Range of Colours – It has a range of three colours for fair, light and deeper skin tones that benefit from a bronzer.

Hint: when applying bronzer, use along the cheekbone and sweep right up into the hair line. If you angle your brush a little higher as you brush up, this will give a lifted effect to the cheek area. Any area that appears “lifted” creates the illusion of youthfulness.

Milani Baked Powder Blush in Luminoso

I believe one of the best, if not the best colour for youthful skin is a peach blush. A lot of peach blushes are too orange or too pink. This blush is neither but rather a true neutral. Once again, this is a powder product but it doesn’t have a drying effect to the skin. It is a baked blush and is packed with lasting pigment for great colour payoff. Even though it has a slight glow to it, the placement on the apple of the cheeks usually is not an area of fine lines, so it has nowhere to settle into.

Milani Lipstick in Nude Creme

The pigment and colour payoff is great in this brand and with this colour. It is a mix of nude, peach and pink. With this mix, it becomes a neutral and is therefore more versatile for many skin tones.

Moisturizing – As we age, our lips become more accentuated with fine lines. We need moisture to plump up lips. This lipstick line is very moisturizing while at the same time quite pigmented.
Neutral Colour – Even though this lipstick colour is light, it has enough pigment to compliment most skin tones. It is a soft and neutral colour. If lipstick is too cool in it’s tone, it will look too harsh. Neutral and warmer tones soften the appearance of the entire face.
